Project: Sky Panel Ceiling Installation – United Nail Salon, Florida
For this large-scale environmental graphics project, I was commissioned by United Nail Salon in Florida to design and produce a calming ceiling installation using high-resolution printed sky panels. The goal was to enhance the salon’s ambiance with a tranquil, natural scene featuring tree canopies and clouds, printed directly onto LED diffuser lenses.
Role & Process
As the lead designer, I was responsible for the visual concept, digital composition, and production preparation. The entire scene was built in Adobe Photoshop, utilizing a curated selection of stock photography. The biggest creative challenge was making the images flow seamlessly across multiple LED panels—each acting as a “window” into the sky—while ensuring the illusion remained intact regardless of viewing angle.
The process involved:
-
Careful compositing of trees and clouds to create a continuous, peaceful sky scene.
-
Custom layout planning to account for the overhang and grid lines of the LED framing system.
-
Mathematical precision in scaling and dividing the image to match exact physical panel dimensions and avoid alignment issues.
-
Preparing files for high-resolution output at 300 DPI, ensuring clarity and vibrancy under backlighting.
Materials & Output
The final image was printed on LED diffuser lenses using a wide-format printer. This required special attention to how the colors and details would appear when lit from behind. I created all design, press-ready, as well as printing to ensure the whole process was a smooth as possible.
Outcome
The client was thrilled with the final result. The ceiling installation brought a soothing, open-air effect to the space, elevating the overall salon experience for their customers. It was a rewarding project that combined artistic vision with technical execution on a large format.
